Ingredients:

For the Tuna Salad:

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna in water, drained
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise (add more to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon or yellow mustard (optional)
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sweet or dill pickle relish (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional, for brightness)

For the Sandwich:

  • 4 slices of bread (white, wheat, or multigrain)
  • Lettuce leaves (such as romaine or iceberg)
  • Tomato slices (optional)
  • Butter (optional, for toasting)

Instructions:

  1. Make the tuna salad:
    In a medium bowl, combine drained tuna, mayonnaise, mustard (if using), celery, onion, and relish.
    Mix well until evenly coated.
    Season with salt, pepper, and lemon juice to taste.
  2. Prepare the bread:
    Toast the bread slices lightly, if desired. You can also butter them before toasting for extra flavor.
  3. Assemble the sandwich:
    Place a lettuce leaf on one slice of bread, then spoon a generous amount of tuna salad over it.
    Add tomato slices if you like.
    Top with the second slice of bread.
  4. Serve:
    Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately with chips, soup, or a side salad.
