For the Tuna Salad:
- 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna in water, drained
- ¼ cup mayonnaise (add more to taste)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon or yellow mustard (optional)
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons red onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon sweet or dill pickle relish (optional)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional, for brightness)
For the Sandwich:
- 4 slices of bread (white, wheat, or multigrain)
- Lettuce leaves (such as romaine or iceberg)
- Tomato slices (optional)
- Butter (optional, for toasting)
Instructions:
- Make the tuna salad:
In a medium bowl, combine drained tuna, mayonnaise, mustard (if using), celery, onion, and relish.
Mix well until evenly coated.
Season with salt, pepper, and lemon juice to taste. - Prepare the bread:
Toast the bread slices lightly, if desired. You can also butter them before toasting for extra flavor. - Assemble the sandwich:
Place a lettuce leaf on one slice of bread, then spoon a generous amount of tuna salad over it.
Add tomato slices if you like.
Top with the second slice of bread. - Serve:
Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately with chips, soup, or a side salad.
